The pandemic has had a massive impact on how lawyers work now and will work in the future. The new normal is definitely not going to be like the old one. It also opened up a Pandora’s Box of cyber security and ethical issues with people working remotely. As lawyers come to grip with the new reality, they can identify most of the problems, but may not know where to turn for the solutions. We view this as the perfect opportunity for new programming ideas that address remote working, confidentiality, managing a practice and employees when you’re not all in the same office anymore, and avoiding communication breakdowns (internally and externally) when everyone is geographically dispersed. Depending upon personality types and environment, working from home might be great for one person and torture for another. Finally, a generation of lawyers traditionally relied upon support staff to complete work product, but that staff is no longer just 10 feet away. Because of this dynamic, many lawyers want to learn how to use the core production tools (Word, Excel, Outlook, Acrobat, etc.) and become more technologically self-reliant (not to mention the ethics rules changes in 38 states which arguably require this).
