Foreign lawyers or immigrants who wish to practice law in the United States must navigate and overcome several barriers prior to obtaining entry in the legal industry. Becoming a lawyer in the United States is a complicated process especially for individuals who hold citizenship from other countries. In addition to navigating the educational, cultural, and language barriers, foreign lawyers and immigrants must also navigate their local state bar admission requirements as well as the U.S. immigration system. This presentation will cover the challenges foreign lawyers and immigrants face from their perspective in a thoughtful and insightful manner.
