As a result of COVID-19 all state and federal courts have significant backlogs of cases, and court appointed Special Masters can help Judges in state and federal court to managed these cases.The ABA Special Master Committee and the Academy of Court Appointed Masters are resources for CLE material and CLE speakers.This presentation will explain the rules for the appointment of Special Masters in state and federal courts.

Peter S. Vogel is Of Counsel in the Litigation Section and a member of the Privacy, Security & Information Management Team, the Technology Transactions & Outsourcing Team, the NFT Task Force, and the Blockchain Task Force. Before practicing law he worked as a systems programmer, received a Masters’ in Computer Science, and taught graduate courses in information systems. Peter has had trials around the US on software implementations, misappropriation of trade secrets, copyright infringement, software patent infringement, and Internet disputes. For 12 years Peter served as the Founding Chair of the Texas Supreme Court Judicial Committee on Information Technology which is responsible for helping automate the Texas court system and creating the Texas eFiling System.
